IU Halts Activities as Ear Condition Worsens: Concert Canceled, 6th Album Postponed

Singer and actress IU has canceled her Goyang concert scheduled for September and postponed the release of her new album due to worsening symptoms of patulous Eustachian tube.

On the 20th, IU shared a message on the fan platform Berrizz, saying that her chronic patulous Eustachian tube symptoms had been getting worse. She explained that in recent years she had pushed herself too hard out of dedication to her work without considering her condition, and that lately the symptoms had persisted day and night, making it repeatedly difficult to find her voice while singing.

Patulous Eustachian tube is a condition in which the Eustachian tube, the space behind the eardrum, remains abnormally open. It can cause a blocked or uncomfortable feeling in the ears.

IU added that experts advised it would be too demanding for her to hold concerts, which involve heavy movement and sweating, for the time being. She expressed how heavy-hearted and sorry she felt for being unable to keep her concert promise.

As a result, the release of her new album has also been delayed. IU noted that since the promotion for what would be her sixth studio album was centered on performances and touring, the album's release timing inevitably had to be pushed back. She asked fans to wait a little longer, promising to do her best to return with a new album and performances as soon as possible.

Her agency, EDAM Entertainment, also said they had judged that her recent ear condition made it difficult to proceed with performances, and that after careful discussion they decided to adjust this year's schedule with her health as the top priority.
